AGA VIDEO/MULTI-MEDIA/W-BENCH BACKDROPS.
Public Domain Demo Disk
As an individual involved in Video Graphics on the Amiga for 6 years, I
have always noticed a distinct lack of decent Low Resolution backdrops for
Video or Multimedia applications, Sure there is plenty of Hi-Res,24Bit,JPEG
material around, but this unfortunately limits their usage to users with
powerful Amigas. After drooling over these pictures for years and never
being able to use them, I decided to produce my own. They are also to my
knowledge the first AGA Video related source material available, so I hope
that they fill this particular gap in the market.
The problem is with Hi-Res material is that it is really only meant to be
displayed in the Resolution it was originally produced in. If you get for
example a Hi-Res Commercially available background, fair enough it looks
great in Hi-Res, but when you try and convert it to a less memory consuming
format, the picture obviously loses quality. When you Re-Scale a Low
Resolution picture into a higher resolution, It looks EXACTLY the same.
At this point the choice is yours, leave it in Low-Res and work on it
there, or Convert it to a Higher Resolution for the inclusion of Hi-Res
Text etc.
Unlike a lot of Commercially available images, The Images on this disk
are all in MAXIMUM OVERSCAN, and were produced in 128 colour mode, using 64
colours, leaving an additional 64 colours for additional Text and cosmetic
effects.
As an aditional note for inexperienced users, the Re-Scaling operation can
be carried out using most AGA art packages, simply by loading the image
into its original format and then selecting the Higher Resolution of your
choice, when the Software asks if you if you want the image to be
Re-Sized, click on YES and there you have it!.
For owners of Genlocks with adjustable balance between Video and Computer
such as a ROCGEN Plus, you can use the images to give the Video Signal a
Pseudo texture, creating effects similar to those used so commonly
nowadays by TV Companies. Colour Zero in the Palette has not been used in
any of the Images.
Another possible use is as WORKBENCH 3.0 Backdrops but I suggest that if
you use them for this purpose, and have limited memory then you should
convert them to Non-OverScan and into 64 Colour Mode, as a 128 colour
Workbench eats up a lot of valuable memory.
